Catalina 320 Hull History and Design Changes

The C320 has evolved greatly since its introduction in 1993. This table attempts to capture as much information about where and what changes were made along the way. It is quite incomplete at this point but will improve over time if owners contribute data.

If you own a C320 and can provide details about your hull, model year, and any other info that will help paint a more complete picture, please feel free to log in and add your details. If you're not comfortable with updating this page, contact someone on the board and we'll help out. Specifically, we don't know which hull numbers belong to which model year, unique features or problems you've had fixed, etc.

Other notes and tips:

  • Some 1993 models had problems with electrical wire chafe
  • Poor winterizing causing hot water heater failures
  • ProMariner chargers are failing (20-3, 30-3)
  • Standing rigging should last 8 yrs in salt water, 20yrs in fresh
  • Reroute frig drain to shower sump via a new "Y"
  • Reseal emergency rudder access to avoid leaks
  • Water valve under aft berth are inconvenient
  • Look for Garhauer travelers with the upgrade package
  • Minor hull blisters were reported between the Hull number range of #319 - #417

Preferences:

  • Yanmar diesel (smoother below 1000rpm, easier starting)
  • PSS seal
  • Autoprop (avoid 3 bladed fixed prop)

Engine Genealogy:

  • Perkins M30
  • Westerbeke 30B3
  • Yanmar 3GM30F (Japan and European), then 3YM series
