C320 Checklists
The checklists were developed to augment the routine inspections, and seasonal maintenance activities associated with

maintaining the safety, seaworthiness, and pleasurable cruising attributes of
Ovation, a Catalina C-380 #217.
Ovation’s homeport is Cleveland, OH, USA. Cleveland’s climate includes hot summers and freezing winters. Therefore the checklists are designed to cover one full boating season where the boat is on the hard for the winter, prepared for launching, launched, prepared for haul-out, and finally winterized. (
Ovation’s mast is unstepped for the winter.) The C320 IA has modified the checklists and this information page to suit our boats. Our appreciation goes out to the C380 association for permission to do so.
A utilitarian way to assemble the checklists is to collectively book them in a thin (3/4 inch) three ring binder. Inserting the sheets into clear 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheet protectors designed for ring binders keeps the sheets organized and clean. Typically the two pages per checklist are placed back-to-back in the sheet protector, i.e., columns A thru D are in the front with E thru F in the back. (Column E simply repeats the item number to facilitate line item correspondence when turning the page.) Labeled tab sheets are used to separate the individual checklists and to provide quick access.
It is not necessary to reproduce each checklist in its entirety every year, but rather use the following short cut. This convenient method of creating a ‘completion log’ can be achieved by copying page one of each checklist and cutting the

copy vertically along the line separating columns B and C. Punch 3 holes in the narrow ‘completion sheet’ containing columns A and B so that the rows align with their respective item numbers when placed in the three ring binder on top of the sheet protector. The date can be easily written on the log sheet as the individual items are completed. Note that cell B1 is reserved for marking the year. All the log sheets can be collected at the end of the season for future reference and replaced with new ones for the upcoming season.
The binder also provides a convenient place for a maintenance log that might list: the item to be repaired, date reported, date fixed, and additional comments.
